SHIRLEY’S POEM, ‘DETERMINATION,’ AMONG ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH FESTIVITIES IN TORONTO

May 26, 2015 – On May 13, 2015, more than 600 elementary school students at St. Margaret’s Catholic School in Toronto were treated to a day of Filipino storytelling, music and dance in honour of Asian Heritage Month. While Shirley could not attend, her poem, ‘Determination,’ was read by Jaisa Sulit as a lesson in practice and patience in order to accomplish one’s goals. Shirley is thrilled her writing was well-received by the students, the majority of whom were Filipino. Thank you to everyone at St. Margaret’s, and to Jaisa for sharing Shirley’s work!
